A Seat With Some History
Same corner, since 1929
Johnny Chew's takes its name — and its address — from one of Old Town Scottsdale's original gathering spots.
Johnny Rose's Pool Hall
A one-stop Old Town institution at this corner — "Fancy Groceries, Shoe Repairing, Barber Shop, Pool Hall, Ice Cream, Confectionary, and Soft Drinks," according to its own sign.
The Song family puts down roots
J. Chew Song purchases the property, the same year the first Saba's opened just down the road — two Old Town families whose histories would run side by side for generations.
J. Chew & Co. opens
Jack Song opens a bar and restaurant under the family name at 7320 Scottsdale Mall — the very address Johnny Chew's calls home today.
New names, same corner
After J. Chew & Co. closed, the space carried on under new ownership as Brackin's Bar, then reopened in 2009 as The Old Town Tavern.
